Hand-knotted carpet can be considered as the most artistic human product that Iranians have a great contribution in creating and producing this precious art throughout history; as the world recognizes the carpet with Iran and Iran with its hand-knotted carpet. The compression-recovery behavior and feet feeling comfort are the most important properties of hand-knotted carpet. This review presents a brief look at the hand-knotted carpet structure, importance of compression and recovery properties, compression-recovery measurement methods, and methods of carpet feet feeling evaluation. Given that the hand-knotted carpets are generally three-dimensional textiles that consist of two zones, namely base and pile, the effects of base zone and pile zone i.e. pile materials, pile yarn structure, and carpet construction parameters on the compression-recovery properties have been also explored. To study the effect of the base zone, a new type of carpet named Double-Base Persian (DBP) carpet has been introduced, which is one of the important innovations in the basis of hand-knotted carpet production and improving the compression-recovery properties and feet feeling comfort. The DBP carpets are similar to conventional with two sets of warp sheets, which an adjustable gap created between them. Generally, the major structural difference between conventional and DBP carpets is in the presence of a gap between the two sets of warp sheets in the base which can be filled with fillers. The employed apparatus, method, and structure of the DBP carpets have been introduced. In addition, the relation between compression properties and feet feeling comfort have been discussed.
